The climbs

Col de Grimone (1318m)
From Chatillon-en-Diois
11.4 km at 4.9 % - 2nd Cat
[Rich] A first in the 2002 Tour de France, this is trickier than you might expect. It goes on and the end part in particular is steep and windy.

Col d'Ornon (1371m)
From Le Perier
9.8 km at 4.8 % - 2nd Cat
[Rich] A pleasant climb, exposed to sun through open pastures. Never very difficult.

Col de Prémol (963m)
From Establet
2.2 km at 5.5 % - 3rd Cat
[Rich] Surprisingly tricky for a third category climb. Mainly thanks to all the climbing that leads up to the foot of the climb.

Les Deux Alpes (1650m)
One approach only
11.2 km at 6.4 % - 1st Cat
[Rich] The first few kms are the same as for the Col du Galibier, until you turn off at the Chambon dam. Like its big brother Alpe d'Huez, each hairpin is numbered - although there are fewer here, and the climb is not as tough. Still, it will get you sweating.

Mont Ventoux (1909m)
From Bedoin
21.1 km at 7.6 % - H.C
[Rich] Perhaps the most legendary climb in France. It's long alright at 21kms and with 1609m of ascension from this, the most difficult side. A gentle start, but it soon gets into regular passages of 10%. The last 6km are completely unshaded, among the famously lunar landscape - and steep too. Do it early morning if the Provençal sun is at its most cruel. The memorial to Tommy Simpson lies around 2kms from the summit on this road.
